1)  Ministry Announcement:

Ontario Extends Teacher - Led Online Learning Until January 25 to keep Students and Staff safe in Southern Ontario

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise at an alarming rate throughout the province, the Ontario government, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health and other health experts, is extending certain measures to keep students, education staff, and residents of Northern Ontario safe. This includes extending online teacher-led learning until January 25, 2021 for elementary school students in the 27 Southern Ontario public health unit regions and extending the shutdown in Northern Ontario for another 14 days, aligning with the shutdown period in Southern Ontario.

These time-limited measures are being taken to help ensure that all Ontarians stay at home as much as possible to minimize transmission of the virus and prevent hospitals from becoming overwhelmed, while at the same time being responsive to the fact that Northern Ontario students are not able to learn at home as effectively due to limited access to reliable Internet service.

The Ontario Government stated that another announcement would be made on January 20th, 2021 regarding COVID-19 cases in Ontario by the Chief Medical Officer of Health.

2)   Kindergarten Registration:

If your child will be 4 by Dec 31, 2021, they can start school in September. Registration for the 2021-2022 school year opens in January 2021.

3)  Electronic Device Distribution:

We hope most students already have access to electronic devices. If, however, a student needs a device, their parent/guardian should contact the school via our email address Holy.Redeemer@ocsb.ca to make arrangements for the loan of a device.

4) Attendance K-6:

Parents of students in elementary (K-6) , may approve their child(ren) absent for this week of remote learning. Parents should follow the regular process for informing the school. Students can be responsible for the work provided in Hapara but students should not be penalized for assessments during the week of remote learning.
