Hello from the Hazeldean Branch of the Ottawa Public Library

We are getting ready to launch the TD Summer Reading Club 2015! This program encourages children to discover the magic of reading and welcomes them and their families to enjoy the free resources available at their local library branch of the Ottawa Public Library. During the summer of 2014, the Hazeldean Branch had over 734 neighbourhood children join us for the TD Summer Reading Club. Together they read 4072 books! This year, we hope to read over 5000 books.

As one of our local schools, we’re hoping that you can help us to get the word out about this year’s summer reading program. When children sign up for the reading program, they receive a free summer reading kit, including a reading log book and stickers. We will also be offering free library programming all summer, for children ages 4-12. We find that when we’re able to share this information with students directly, they are more likely to visit the library to pick up a summer reading kit, and to keep reading throughout the summer.

If you would like a library staff member to visit your class or school to give a presentation about the TD Summer Reading Club, please let us know. We can make a short 5-minute presentation to a school assembly, or a series of 20-30 minute presentations to groups of classes. We understand that school schedules are busy, and that your time is limited, so we would also be happy to simply drop off TD Summer Reading Club invitations to your school to be distributed to students.

The TD Summer Reading Club at the Ottawa Public Library is designed to support you in your efforts by consolidating and improving children’s acquired reading skills during the summer months. By encouraging the children in your school to register for the TD Summer Reading Club at the Ottawa Public Library, you help them continue to learn during their summer vacation.

Sincerely,

Jennifer, Sarah, and Robbie (the Children’s and Teen Services team at the Hazeldean Branch of the Ottawa Public Library)
